Recently I had the opportunity to be invited a guest blogger on the Fashion Undressed project with Master Card at South Bank London. Southbank Centre has teamed up with MasterCard in a new partnership, FashionUndressed with MasterCard. This festival puts the ordinary person at the heart of fashion by exploring the distinctive, diverse and inventive style of people from all walks of life and investigating the influence of epoch-defining fashion movements on our everyday lives.Fashion Undressed with MasterCard is a two-year partnership featuring the first ever dedicated fashion weekend at the arts venue in July (23-24) and major fashion events during three Southbank Centre flagship festivals: Alchemy (20 -30 May), Africa Utopia (31 August – 4 September) and Being a Man (25 -27 November).

Sabyasachi – The master craftsman
I get so many queries on where to find nice Indian wear in London. Most of my acquaintances too struggle with the same problem. Personally I have always shopped my Indian wardrobe from India itself. But there have been times when I really needed something here in London and I too struggled to find something nice. Thanks to my blog, I had an opportunity to connect with some lovely brands based here which offer distinctively different designs; designs which I personally prefer and something I am more likely to wear. Today on the blog I will talk about two such brands who are trying to change people’s mindset towards Indian fashion by focusing on the authenticity of the fabric and embroideries.
Last week I attended Aashni & Co press day with Manish Malhotra, where he unveiled his latest collection. The British Asian Trust, hosted an exclusive preview of the latest festive collection and he was announced as the brand ambassador of the charity at the event. It was a fantastic opportunity to come up close and personal with Bollywood’s go to designer. During the press meet he talked about this work, movies and his fashion journey. So Manish was this creative young boy who was not into studies but rather focused on other interesting things like modelling and Bollywood. He loved sketching and was obsessed with films. He started off by working in a boutique and really enjoyed interacting with clients on a daily basis. During his time there he got into making his own clothes. It so happened that Sridevi saw his work and he was invited to style her next shoot. There has been no looking back since then. He has now worked in big Bollywood movies and styled super stars. He actually introduced the concept of styling to Indian cinema. His next project was the launch of his own clothing line ten years back and now plans to open his standalone store in London. His story is very inspirational and I hope he continues to inspire us with his creations.

As I made my way through the marigold-clad black iron gate into the sprawling garden estate, I was transported into a poetic world of Lucknow’s Mughal courtyard. Billionaires H S Narula and wife Surina opened their lush green garden estate to support renowned South Asian dance company Akademi. The charity garden gala recreated the magic of Umrao Jaan – an Urdu classic, based on the famous Lucknow courtesan. It was Akademi’s first ever fundraising gala and their sheer dedication toward their passion was fully evident in the interactive Umrao Jaan narration. It was conceptualised by Mira Kaushik, Director, Akademi and brought to life by creative director Subhalaxmi Mukherjee.
