Exclusive interview with SRK’s stylist in Raees

SRK’s look from the movie Raees is getting rave reviews. With kajal in his eyes and wearing a pathani suit, he is looking his part. The Red Notebook got a chance to catch up with his stylist in the movie, Sheetal Sharma. Let’s see what he had to say about styling SRK.

Tell us about your journey. How did you get into styling?

My first project was a movie called “Miss Lovely” in 2010. I was just fresh out of college and got this project. It was a critically acclaimed film and the looks were very real. Personally, I enjoy styling everyday, real characters and creating realistic looks. Hence I really enjoyed this project. Continue Reading

What I am wearing this Autumn

Summer has officially ended and autumn is knocking our door. But as the temperatures start to drop, the need to move our style to the cozier side of things is necessary. Autumn looks are right in the middle of transitioning from warm weather, to chilly. Layering gets crucial, colours get warmer and more dark. Many new trends came out for the upcoming season, giving us many ideas for inspiration. But the most important of all, is to incorporate them in your everyday wardrobe, blend them with your personal style and continue to be unique without losing yourself.

This autumn, allows us to use happy colours such as pink or yellow. That’s why in today’s look I chose a light pink mid-length skirt (which is obviously the star of the show). I combined it with simple, yet strong pieces that give the whole outfit a character.

A plain black top worn inside of the skirt, helps to highlight the beauty of it without interrupting the rest of the look. To top it off, I picked a black biker jacket, that balances perfectly the super feminine touch of the pink skirt and manages to toughen up the girly vibe. You can try this combo if you want to achieve an edgier style. I also added a beautiful black shoulder bag with chain strap detail and flat pointed shoes in a striped pattern. As for accessories, minimal is the way to go; the less the better. Concerning makeup, I kept it natural, classic and chic.

Mixing very feminine clothes with a masculine item like a biker jacket, is the best way to turn all your “too” girly pieces into more wearable ones. If you are afraid of skirts like the one I am wearing, through on a jacket borrowed from the boys department and you are good to go. This combination will surely give you a lot of confidence. No need to think this just for skirts though. It works for your blouses too. For example, if you own a girly top and want to create a different approach to your outfit, put some smart trousers underneath and it will look amazing.

So what’s your favourite combination? Let me know and stay beautiful!

For this post I tried different location other than my back garden. Lovely photography by my very talented friend  Photography-by Roshni

How to style your holiday maxi dress

DSCF4116

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I was away for a few weeks in sunny California. California is one of my top travel destinations as I have family and very close friends there. I find California very relaxed and far away from the fast paced city life of London. This holiday was more about catching up with friends and family but we did make a trip to Santa Barbara. In Santa Barbara we spent a couple of days in a family-friendly resort to unwind before we head back to London.

Weekend Dress Up

Indian fashion asian fashion blogger Uk London Top blogger indian asian fashion blogger london uk thumb_DSCF3879_1024

I would say my dressing style is very casual and I do not really enjoy wearing formals. On the blog today I am sharing a weekend outfit idea that I pulled together by mixing a few wardrobe basics. This look is very relaxed and would work on most body shapes. For this outfit, I mixed a pair of wide leg trousers (perfect for a pear body shape), black camisole and a basic denim shirt. This black hat I am wearing here is very Parisian style but wearing it like this makes my outfit look casual. Ideal for a cold spring day.

Avoid reaching for the same style staples every weekend. Try and mix interesting pieces from your wardrobe to create unique looks. Go for stylish yet practical looks.  A white tee, distressed jeans and a playful blazer would be fun and smart at the same time.

What are your weekend go to outfits ? Would love you guys to share below.

These pieces are from the last season collection but I have made a list of similar items to recreate this look.

Trouser – H&M

Bag – Mango

Shirt – H&M

Hat – H&M

New Trend – Off Shoulder Tops

The off shoulder top is the new spring trend. Actually it should be a wardrobe staple now. It might not be fit for workwear but it makes an ideal choice for bright spring days. It lets you bare some skin but also provides some coverage for heavy arms. These tops are perfect for your holiday suitcase. Off shoulder tops are the new crop tops. They are a big rage this season. Aashni & Co Wedding Show 2016

indian wedding blogger

After the resounding success of Aashni & Co Wedding show last year, it was time to appreciate the work and craftsmanship of the very best in Indian & Pakistani fashion. Last Sunday we had a unique opportunity to interact with India’s favourite and most respected designers at the Aashni & Co Wedding Show.

Personally I was really excited to meet Anju Modi and get a glimpse of her latest Baji Rao Mastani Collection. A lot of research has gone into creating the looks for Deepika as Mastani but the results have been well worth the wait.

The event also featured floral styling by Zita Elze, who recreated a breath taking, enchanted garden installation. It wowed visitors and created a standalone focal point in itself. The garden was adorned by key designers pieces, creating a magnificent entrance. Continue Reading

Diwali Festive Outfit Delight

Past few weeks have been pretty action packed for me. I was away in India for about ten days sans my kids. It was a very emotional trip for me and I am glad that I managed to achieve what I set out for. Now back in London and gearing up for Diwali. Diwali calls for a festive Indian wardrobe and sometimes London doesn’t offer you many choices when it comes to shopping for your Indian wardrobe. I feel that what we have on offer here is very different from my personal taste and liking. But now that I have discovered Jyoti Chandhok label, I feel reassured that good Indian design can now be easily accessible in London. Jyoti’s studio in suburbs of North London is a storehouse of intricate hand embroidery and luxurious fabrics. She stocks ready to wear range and takes custom orders too. I was spoilt for choices when I visited her to choose my festive outfit for Diwali to feature on the blog.

I choose this maroon velvet lehenga with a wide gotta border. As Jyoti says it’s a ‘suchha border’, meaning pure gotta made from real gold threads as opposed to machine made gotta which uses metal threads as substitute. The velvet in the outfit gives it a very regal look and is apt for a winter festive event. I am wearing the lehenga with a beautiful gold embroidered blouse and matching maroon dupatta. Also wearing jewellery which I picked up from Khan Market during my trip to India.

For this blog shoot I have collaborated with a talented photographer mum

Joelene Davis. You can find her on Instagarm here

Joelene has done a brilliant job and has truly captured the essence of this outfit. Moving forward I will try and do more theme based shoots and capture fashion stories in beautiful surroundings.

Diwali is on 11th November and I wish you all a very prosperous Diwali. I know it is a working day but do try and take half day or sneak out early to enjoy this lovely festival with family and friends.
