The Quintessential Red Lehenga For The Festive Season

Pic: A Few Good Clicks

Pic : A Few Good Clicks

Red bridal lehenga is synonymous with any Indian bride. It is a very traditional bridal wear colour and suits most Indian girls. These days, brides are ditching traditional red colour lehengas in favour of other colours. I was one of those brides who opted for a non-regal colour. I got married in the age of non-existent social media/inspirational wedding sites. Back then I did have a unique taste in fashion and was quite fussy about my choices. Because red was the go-to lehenga colour for most brides, I wanted something different, and thus opted for a coral/pink colour. Recently, for my brother’s wedding, I was itching to wear red for the wedding day and wore this beauty. This dark reddish maroon velvet lehenga is from one of my favourite designers, Jyoti Chandhok.

This post is about a year old but I just couldn’t find the right opportunity to share it. Now that we are are heading to the festive season, I thought it would be appropriate to share it now.

How I found this Lehenga

I was at Jyoti’s North London Studio where I was exploring some new designs for the upcoming wedding. After a few attempts of trying different things, Jyoti showed me one of her own personal designs – a red velvet lehenga with a gota border. I instantly fell in love with the fabric, and the quality of the gota border. These days a lot of lehenga designs have a gota border but the quality of the gota is very cheap. This particular one looked very regal to me and I decided to wear it on my brother’s wedding.

Once I decided to go ahead with the lehenga, the next step was to create the whole ensemble along with the choli and dupatta. I preferred to have something light so I could freely move around in my outfit. So we opted for a red brocade choli and a light net dupatta. I wore the lehenga on the the wedding day and danced my heart out in the wedding procession. I plan to wear it again over this festive season and if you want to have a glimpse of some more regal outfits from Jyoti Chandhok ,then come along to our exclusive festive tea party on 6th & 7th October. Jewellery love from Viva Luxe

Last year I introduced a new Indian fashion brand on the blog called Viva-Luxe. In the past one year, Viva Luxe has emerged as a strong online Asian fashion brand catering to an international audience. They offer a range of designer clothing from suits to sarees and lehengas.

As an Indian woman living away from India, I am always interested in exploring new shopping venues for Indian clothes. I shop most of my everyday wardrobe online as it’s so convenient for me. Slowly Asian brands and designers are venturing into the online world and making Asian fashion accessible to an international audience. Viva-Luxe is one such brand which has really established itself in the online world. Right from offering free delivery within UK to custom fitting, Viva Luxe is offering impeccable service to all fashion lovers.

The website stocks some distinctive designer labels and has a beautiful collection for the upcoming festive season. Here are few of my favourite pieces.

Other than Indian clothes, they have a very unique jewellery collection featuring statement necklaces and earrings . I am sporting some of their jewellery on the blog and this is how I have styled it.

I wore this stunning statement necklace with a double breasted blazer style dress from Asos. Since this necklace was a bit delicate and feminine, I chose to pair it with a masculine outfit. This look could be apt for the upcoming party season. The necklace will look stunning with any black dress and add that glam factor.

Also have a look at another jewellery beauty. These emerald green earrings above are perfect to glam up any everyday look. I wore them with an off-shoulder white top. Green coloured accessories pair nicely with white clothing and add a bit more to your plain white top.

I hope you enjoyed the above featured jewellery. If you are looking for some Indian festive fashion gift ideas, then do stalk jewellery Viva Luxe here.

Diwali Decor and Outfit Inspiration

Hope you all had a lovely time this Diwali. Now that the festival is over, all we are left with are the messed-up Rangolis, melted tea light candles and leftover sweets. Snippets of your home remind you of the festive time you had with your loved ones. I love the excitement and the whole run up to Diwali. Sorting out my festive wardrobe and thinking about Diwali decor really gets my creative juices flowing. Living in London where I have limited access to resources does limit me from going full out, but I do try and work around my limitations.

Diwali is my favourite festival and I have fond memories of this festival as a child. As a mum I would like to give my kids the same memories. Being a working mum of two young kids, I find it challenging to balance everything – work, home, kids and my blog. But I guess I get a kick from doing what I am doing and I am passionate about it. I just about manage it all and carry on. Enough on the story of my life, let’s focus on some festive decor inspiration.

This is how I decorated my place for Diwali. Hope you enjoy my picture story here.

Diwali Table Decor

This arrangement is very easy to create. Simply use a neutral table runner and adorn it with silver and copper accessories. To give final touches, sprinkle some rose petals and your Diwali table is ready.

Rangoli Stencils

I used some Rangoli stencils (got them from India) to create patterns on the floor.

Diwali sweets is the biggest attraction for everyone. Right from the little ones to the big kids. We all love mithai. This Diwali I tried to use cake stands and glass boxes to create a mithai centrepiece. I have to tell you it was difficult to keep my kids off from this centrepiece and take a picture before the sweets disappeared.

Diwali Rangoli Pattern

I have a wooden floor at my place so usually my rangoli pattern would look very dull. This time I used only one colour and did the outline with white which gave some contrast to the pattern. I also used golden tea light holders for decoration.

My Diwali Outfit

So finally, what I wore this Diwali. I wore this Afghani embroidery skirt from Nabeel. I used a traditional maang tikka (bought from Amrapali) to give my outfit a traditional look and my Zara necklace to still keep it modern. I tried to fuse modern and traditional into one look. I wore this skirt slightly differently from how I wore it last time. See how I wore it earlier here.

Hope you enjoyed my Diwali story here. In the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a lot more about winter and party fashion so stay tuned.

THREADS – Indian Fashion Trunk Show

Threads Christmas! (2)

I get so many queries on where to find nice Indian wear in London. Most of my acquaintances too struggle with the same problem. Personally I have always shopped my Indian wardrobe from India itself. But there have been times when I really needed something here in London and I too struggled to find something nice. Thanks to my blog, I had an opportunity to connect with some lovely brands based here which offer distinctively different designs; designs which I personally prefer and something I am more likely to wear. Today on the blog I will talk about two such brands who are trying to change people’s mindset towards Indian fashion by focusing on the authenticity of the fabric and embroideries. Continue Reading

Asian Bride Live ICC Birmingham

asian fashion blog wedding show

Calling all would be brides, mum in laws, bridesmaids and of course grooms to the Asian Bride Live bridal show at ICC Birmingham on Sunday 15th March. Asian Bride Live is now returning to the ICC Birmingham for the second year running on Sunday 15thMarch 2015. The show is organised by Asian Bride magazine, one of UK’s biggest Asian wedding publication. I did attend one of their shows in London last year and really enjoyed the experience of exploring and discovering new brands. What I enjoyed most was the fashion show, that was finely choreographed and a treat for the eyes. This year’s live catwalk has now been upgraded to its own room to create even more theatre for the day.

I personally recommend attending bridal shows in preparation for your big day. You get access to all wedding vendors under one roof. So whether you are looking for photographers, cake makers, makeup artists, caterers or décor companies you will find them all at Asian Bride Live. It’s a good place to start your wedding preparation list. If you have already started planning you wedding then the Asian Bride Live will help you pick up some ideas plus you might be in for some discount from the vendors. The organisers have taken care of your entertainment needs as well – there’ll be the finest in wedding entertainment from dancers to magicians, cabaret acts and musicians, not to mention the best DJs in town.

So go meet the wedding experts on 15th March 2015 at ICC Birmingham and discover all your wedding needs under one roof. See full details below

Aashni + Co Wedding Show

The Red Notebook

Really excited to share this very special post with you all. Have to warn you that it is a long post but I had lots to share too! Last weekend I went to the most awaited Asian wedding show in London courtesy Aashni + Co. I think it’s probably the first time in London we had so many Indian fashion luminaries under one roof. I was in designer heaven – from top tier designers like Sabyasachi and Tarun Tahiliani to new emerging talent like Anushree Reddy and Arpita Mehta.

I have to say that the event was very grand. It presented high-end bridal and occasion wear to the UK audience. Continue Reading
