Christmas celebrations 2016

Christmas has arrived at The Red Notebook HQ in London. My last weekend was spent sorting out old Christmas decor and chucking away loads of rubbish. We also managed to make space for our lovely tree in the Living room. So finally, we welcomed the festive spirit in full glory.

Browsing local flea markets and high street shops fuels my decor inspiration. Every year it starts to feel a little festive for me once I start working on decor ideas. So this year we have a red and white festive theme. Irrespective of the space you have, you can go full out to adorn your abode with festive decor. Today I am sharing some very simple decor ideas that I worked on this year to welcome the spirit of Christmas.

  • Festive garland on the mantelpiece

Decorating your mantelpiece can immediately bring some festive warmth to your living space. Decorate your mantelpiece with festive garland and tea lights this Christmas. I bought this one from Christmas markets at Muswell Hill. Your local Christmas markets are full of festive inspirations and unique ideas – do pay them a visit.

  • Use a festive table cloth

Set the table for an unforgettable Christmas lunch/dinner using a festive table cloth. It’s also the time when your loved dining table will be used the most. So show some extra love by decorating it with festive table cloth and coasters.

  •  Cake stand and Candles as a centerpiece

Cake stands are very versatile. You can use them to serve food or even as a table centrepiece. I have used my cake stand with a pillar candle and a small berry wreath to create a beautiful centrepiece.

The Red Notebook had a great 2016 and I would like to thank all my lovely readers and followers for following our fashion and style journey. I hope we managed to add some fashion fun in your everyday life. Wishing you all a very, very happy holiday season.

Top 5 Autumn Knitwear

top 5 knitwear for Autumn

As we’re getting closer and closer to winter the weather gets even colder and the need for some cosy and comfortable knitwear, gets bigger day by day. Unfortunately, we have to forget all of our beautiful tees or light-weight shirts and switch them up with some heavier and warmer fabrics, ideal for the months ahead. Cashmere, wool or 100% cotton, are the ones that we have to look up to.

Unfortunately for our summer clothes, but fortunately for our winter mood, all the high street designers, came up with amazing jumpers that will definitely satisfy our fashion hunger. From extreme oversized to ruffled or bell-sleeved, there is something for everyone. Even if you can’t afford many pieces from the high-end market, there’s no need to worry, as there are equally beautiful and high quality pieces in more affordable brands as well.

I gathered my favourite pieces, that stood out to me the most and I can’t wait to style them! These are my picks of the best trends for this season to help you take some serious inspiration, and incorporate some (or even all) of them in your winter wardrobe.

Off-Shoulder

We loved the off-the-shoulder trend all summer long and it continues to be on point. Try it with jeans or skirts to add a feminine touch to any casual outfit. I chose this from Asos; simple, fashionable and in a very good price too.

Bell Sleeves

Bell sleeved knits, make a “quiet” statement and spice up even the simplest outfit. They are the perfect way to look pretty in warm clothes. My favourite so far is this, from Topshop.

Cross Over Ties

If you love a beautiful knit, but you are bored by plain designs and want something extra, then this trend is definitely for you. Knits with crossover ties at the hemline like this from French Connection, or with a crossover pattern all over them like this from Mango, are the perfect options.

High Neck

High neck knits, are the perfect solution for the chillier days. In addition, they make you look extremely elegant and well-dressed. Pair a piece like this from French Connection with your favourite jeans and you’re good to go.

Cold days are now sorted. Time for a cup of hot chocolate, right?

Holi Colourful Decor & Outfit Inspiration

Holi PartyDecorideas(1)

It’s been a while since I did a blog post. Quite a few things were happening at my end and my work took a back seat. As you know I went to India for my brother’s wedding and after coming back, I just didn’t want to get back to a routine. I went into procrastination overload, where I kept on delaying tasks and other things I needed to sort out. Now from last week there has been a major shift in my lifestyle and I am slowly getting back to normal – which means working on my blog and other creative projects.

On the blog today I want to share my Holi lifestyle post. Holi, the festival of colours, is one of my favourite festivals. The concept of Holi is now very much popular in Europe. During summer, Holi music festivals are a big rage. Festival goers wear white and immerse themselves in a riot of colours.

Holi is spring time in India and weather is very pleasant. In UK however we don’t have any such weather luxuries. I remember once it even snowed in London on Holi but we still went outside to play. Even though it was windy, dark and grey but our spirits were high.

Here are some pictures of the decor I did outside in my back garden. I did the decor a day before when It was sunny. Next day, due to high winds most of my streamers couldn’t bare the ballistic winds. I kept the theme yellow and pink, used streamers, paper pompoms to create a Holi setting.

It’s a coincidence that my due date is 14th Feb and I am hoping it turns out to be that day. Even though I won’t be able to venture out much, I still want to make it a special occasion.

Celebrate festivities with India Circus

As an Indian family living in London we always miss the same festive vibe that we experienced back home in India. To begin with, Diwali is a working day in the UK and it is like any other day. But I don’t want it to be that way. Every year I try and make an extra effort to create a special day for family. As a mother I have the added responsibility to pass on traditions to the next generation.

In the run up to Diwali I have a few  things in mind like – What should be the menu and  How can I put up Diwali décor at home? Every year I had to make do with the little Indian stuff I have in my personal collection but thanks to some lovely gifts from India Circus I can do a lot more with my Diwali décor. Indian Circus by Krsna Mehta make contemporary & chic products, home decor and personal accessories. The quirky and sophisticated décor designs will add a dash of Indianess to your interiors. The products are easy to order online and shipped worldwide.

India Circus has a lot to offer from home décor to personal accessories and even apparel. The designs are aimed to revive Indian craft and textiles into everyday contemporary products. The vibrant coloured home accessories add a layer of brightness to your interiors and an exquisite charm to your home.

India Circus sent me a few things and I have tried to create two beautiful settings using their products and some from my home décor collection. I hope you like it.

The Red Notebook Completes a Year

The Red Notebook completes a year

Garden view

So it’s been a year of blogging and working on some amazing projects. The journey till date has enriched me as a person and trust me, it wasn’t a smooth ride at all. I was juggling various hats. Being a working mum, stylist and blogger did take a toll on me but I was definitely enjoying being in the zone. The idea of The Red Notebook was just coined in a coffee shop. It was cut and refined further over a series of facetime discussions. I still remember our first shoot when my lovely friends Priyanka and Jas recreated the vision I had in my head. When I look back at the shoot I realise how much I have learned over the last year. Continue Reading

One Dress Two Looks

Indian-fashion-blog-uk-LondonToday’s blog post follows on from the brand collaboration post I did last month with Jara Wine. Today I’ll be talking about how you can style a little red dress for a day as well as a night look.

For my lookbook styling shoot with Jara I selected this eye-catching red Coco Rouge Dress from Jara’s limited edition collection. All of Jara’s clothes are made in UK using pure fabrics and that’s why the fabric feels silky smooth on your skin. Continue Reading
