Looks & Locations Series

Some time back I did a special blog post called the ‘Looks and Location Series’, where I collaborated with Ameeta from Ayewanderful.com. The purpose of doing this series is to explore unique venues in London for quick after-work meetups and experiment with fashion. Today’s post is all about our next find and how we can wear our Autumn style.

For a quick coffee after work, we found this cute little in-store café – Saucer & Spritz in Oasis flagship store in Tottenham Court Road store. This is a relatively new store that launched last year. It’s a concept store created to engage shoppers and provide more than just clothes shopping. The store offers Saucer & Spritz cafe, Pin & Polish nail bar and personal styling services. If you want to mix some fashion, pampering and coffee then this place is for you. The interiors offer a relaxed setting and take inspiration from the tropical lifestyle. I also just found out that the Tottenham Court Road store is playing host to a series of special readings with three inspiring authors. You can book your tickets here.

What we wore

I chose this dark bottle green coloured floral dress. As we were meeting up after work on a Friday, I thought it would be an appropriate option. I am not a big fan of florals but I just couldn’t resist this beauty. I love the dark colour, truly appropriate for autumn, and if I wear it with a black biker jacket then it balances the overall look without making you look overly feminine. The dress is from Zara and I seriously debated in my head whether or not to buy it. In the end, I gave into the temptation and was glad I did so. This dress is a key autumn/winter item in my closet. It also follows the autumn floral trend which is a key look this season. You can dress it up or down, wear it from day to night and I could give ten more reasons to justify my purchase. I loved the dress, hence bought it. It wasn’t an impulsive purchase but a very considered decision. I paired the dress with a burgundy cross body bag from Mango and some minimal jewellery.

Ameeta opted for a very classic look. She wore this white shirt with pussy bow details and paired it with everyday denim. She did a great job in carrying her
outfit from work to after-work meetup. What added some drama to her look was the fuchsia pink sandals which helped in glamming up her look.

We had a lovely time chatting about blogging and other useful stuff that girls talk about. The venue was warm and welcoming and I would definitely recommend this place for an after-work coffee meetup. I hope you enjoyed our second post in the Looks and Location Series. If you want us to explore any new venues or
have suggestions, then do let us know.

The Quintessential Red Lehenga For The Festive Season

Pic: A Few Good Clicks

Pic : A Few Good Clicks

Red bridal lehenga is synonymous with any Indian bride. It is a very traditional bridal wear colour and suits most Indian girls. These days, brides are ditching traditional red colour lehengas in favour of other colours. I was one of those brides who opted for a non-regal colour. I got married in the age of non-existent social media/inspirational wedding sites. Back then I did have a unique taste in fashion and was quite fussy about my choices. Because red was the go-to lehenga colour for most brides, I wanted something different, and thus opted for a coral/pink colour. Recently, for my brother’s wedding, I was itching to wear red for the wedding day and wore this beauty. This dark reddish maroon velvet lehenga is from one of my favourite designers, Jyoti Chandhok.

This post is about a year old but I just couldn’t find the right opportunity to share it. Now that we are are heading to the festive season, I thought it would be appropriate to share it now.

How I found this Lehenga

I was at Jyoti’s North London Studio where I was exploring some new designs for the upcoming wedding. After a few attempts of trying different things, Jyoti showed me one of her own personal designs – a red velvet lehenga with a gota border. I instantly fell in love with the fabric, and the quality of the gota border. These days a lot of lehenga designs have a gota border but the quality of the gota is very cheap. This particular one looked very regal to me and I decided to wear it on my brother’s wedding.

Once I decided to go ahead with the lehenga, the next step was to create the whole ensemble along with the choli and dupatta. I preferred to have something light so I could freely move around in my outfit. So we opted for a red brocade choli and a light net dupatta. I wore the lehenga on the the wedding day and danced my heart out in the wedding procession. I plan to wear it again over this festive season and if you want to have a glimpse of some more regal outfits from Jyoti Chandhok ,then come along to our exclusive festive tea party on 6th & 7th October. The Chic List for Autumn/Winter 2017

As the new season approaches, the high street shops are stacked with the latest Autumn/Winter collection. Sad to know but summer is officially over, and it’s time to organise your wardrobe for the coming winter months. Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. It’s the festive season for us and unlike winter, you do not need all the heavy layers to keep you warm. Wearing light, manageable layers can create unique autumn looks. Most of the high street retailers have received their Autumn/Winter drops and here are a few key trends and wardrobe staples you need to know about this season.

Dare to wear Red

The red hot colour is definitely the flavour of the season. Wherever I go on the high street, the shops are screaming of this trend. From coats to knitwear, dresses and boots, the high street is adamant that customers shop red. The fiery shade dominated the autumn/winter 2017 shows, with brands such as Givenchy and Max Mara sending head-to-toe red looks down the runway. Here is a my curated list of most wanted red items of this season.

Best transitional item

Blazer is a universal clothing item and can instantly fix any drab t-shirt/jeans outfit. This year the runways were dominated by power suits and checks. The check blazer/suit trend is here to slay your Autumn/Winter 2017 wardrobe . Here are some of my high street favourites.

Flowy day to night dresses

Who says dresses are only for spring. There are some real jewels this season – beautiful dresses that can take you straight from a bright autumn day to chilly evenings. Wear it with boots during the day and furry sandals and long coats for an evening look.

Logo Inspired

Designer slogan trend has come back in a big way this year. Slogan t-shirts are on every fashion blogger feed and most of the popular styles are sold out . Translate this trend to knitwear and you are now ready to slay the new season. Here are a few of my logo inspired high street inspirations.

Hope you enjoyed reading the post. Do share your autumn wardrobe staples. I would love to know what you are wearing this season.

Going out tonight

Your style is an expression of your personality. You can choose to be bold, edgy, creative and a lot more just by choosing how you dress. When it comes to glam dressing or evening looks, I find most women struggle to find what to wear. Given our lifestyles, we mums find going-out dressing an effort. Today on the blog I intend to take the effort out from evening wear so that the next time you open your wardrobe, you don’t keep on staring at the enormous collection of clothes.

For a glam evening, I suggest you try some interesting options now available on the high street.

1. Dresses
Feeling great in your outfit makes your evening even more special. Here are some new dresses to try on this season.

2. Jumpsuits
Trade in your LBD to a glam jumpsuit this season. Wear it with high heels and you are ready to go.

3. Skirts
If you are celebrating, then might as well celebrate in style. Shop some stylish skirt options online.

My Style

This is what I wore on my birthday and to another event. I simply love this satin grey wrap round skirt from ASOS. It is so versatile and can be styled in various ways. I teamed it up with an earthy brown tone feminine top again from ASOS. The outfit is very muted in colour but the satin/silk fabric texture makes it apt for evening events. For another event, I reused the same top but this time with a metallic gold pleated skirt. I believe that evening wear doesn’t require you to bear flesh. You can still create glam looks without much skin show.

What do you think of the above high street finds? Would you wear them. I would love to hear your feedback. Till then stay stylish…

Happy 2017

Hello lovely people. Happy New Year ! Welcome to 2017. Hope you all had a wonderful start to the year and managed to set new goals. I also made a new year resolution and plan to follow it through. My new year resolution is to be The Best Version of Myself. Yes it’s simple, isn’t it?

I know it is not always easy to be the best version of oneself when all I want to do is hide under my duvet all day. This is one of the most important questions I can ask myself: ‘How can I be the best version of myself in 2017?’. Mind you, when I say ‘being the best version of myself’, I do not mean comparing myself with others. My only competition is the reflection in my mirror. One thing I like about entering into the new year is the opportunity to reset the system and focus on what’s important. This new year, I would like to connect with myself at a deeper level and be with the individual I am. It’s time to step up my game in 2017 and have a blast.

So starting on this positive note, I have a very fresh winter look on the blog. My look on the blog today celebrates winter and start of 2017. The camel coat I am wearing here is from NEXT which I bought last year. I love the colour of this coat and the fit is very structured. Camel coat is a classic. It comes back every year. It is very versatile, you can wear it to work and also on the weekend. To create a weekend look just pair it up with a jumper, knee ripped jeans and trainers.

I wore it with a pastel brown jumper and blue jeans. I have been wearing this look to work. The styling is very simple as it follows a very neutral palette. If you would like to enrich your winter coat collection with a classic camel-hued coat then shop some of my favourites here

Top 5 Autumn Knitwear

top 5 knitwear for Autumn

As we’re getting closer and closer to winter the weather gets even colder and the need for some cosy and comfortable knitwear, gets bigger day by day. Unfortunately, we have to forget all of our beautiful tees or light-weight shirts and switch them up with some heavier and warmer fabrics, ideal for the months ahead. Cashmere, wool or 100% cotton, are the ones that we have to look up to.

Unfortunately for our summer clothes, but fortunately for our winter mood, all the high street designers, came up with amazing jumpers that will definitely satisfy our fashion hunger. From extreme oversized to ruffled or bell-sleeved, there is something for everyone. Even if you can’t afford many pieces from the high-end market, there’s no need to worry, as there are equally beautiful and high quality pieces in more affordable brands as well.

I gathered my favourite pieces, that stood out to me the most and I can’t wait to style them! These are my picks of the best trends for this season to help you take some serious inspiration, and incorporate some (or even all) of them in your winter wardrobe.

Off-Shoulder

We loved the off-the-shoulder trend all summer long and it continues to be on point. Try it with jeans or skirts to add a feminine touch to any casual outfit. I chose this from Asos; simple, fashionable and in a very good price too.

Bell Sleeves

Bell sleeved knits, make a “quiet” statement and spice up even the simplest outfit. They are the perfect way to look pretty in warm clothes. My favourite so far is this, from Topshop.

Cross Over Ties

If you love a beautiful knit, but you are bored by plain designs and want something extra, then this trend is definitely for you. Knits with crossover ties at the hemline like this from French Connection, or with a crossover pattern all over them like this from Mango, are the perfect options.

High Neck

High neck knits, are the perfect solution for the chillier days. In addition, they make you look extremely elegant and well-dressed. Pair a piece like this from French Connection with your favourite jeans and you’re good to go.

Cold days are now sorted. Time for a cup of hot chocolate, right?

Power Dressing In London

img_3431img_3424img_3383img_3471 img_3455

London! The big city that screams inspiration wherever you go. The streets, the shops, the people you see, everything. London, is also known as one of the biggest fashion capitals in the world; one walk here is enough to convince you for that. It’s for sure the place to be, if you like to dress freely and express yourself in every way possible, without any judging at all. Whether you prefer super daring and out-there clothes, or classy and simple, this is the city that will satisfy anyone.

The look I chose for the day, is definitely inspired from London. It’s a classy and sleek looking outfit, but with a twist. You can really wear it for any occasion you may have. However, it can also be very professional.

I’m wearing a beautiful white blouse with bell sleeves (major trend for the upcoming season), and relaxed fit. This top manages to look very smart, so it is work-appropriate and very comfortable too. The airy fabric and loose fit makes it the most versatile blouse, that you can either dress it up or down, depending on where you want to go. It is the perfect mix of a shirt and a top. A simple black pair of jeans helped highlight the chic details of the blouse. I completed the look with grey-brown ankle boots and a classic black bag with sophisticated metal hardware details.

It is really amazing how some simple clothes combined together, can not only elevate your whole look, but also make a huge difference on your confidence levels. Power dressing is surely the way to success; it makes us feel powerful and ready to deal with any situation. As you can see, this type of dressing doesn’t have to be “too” serious or uncomfortable. The key is to put together the right pieces and of course the right makeup.

Who said makeup can’t make a statement? Makeup can give the right touch effortlessly. Especially with a red lipstick in matte formula, you can totally turn any outfit to a stunning one.

So simple yet beautiful! Which is your favourite power combo.

One skirt two looks

There is a lot of excitement behind newly purchased pieces of clothing. But soon after a couple of wears, the excitement dies. Don’t know about you, but I get easily bored by wearing the same outfit again. It is not realistic to buy a whole new wardrobe every month, but to go easy on your pocket, you can create different looks just by changing a few things.

The outfit I am sharing today clearly demonstrates the wardrobe reusability concept. I wore this cute grey tu tu dress on my birthday and reused it on my holiday too. For the holiday look, I paired it up with a tribal beaded necklace from Zara and metallic sandals from F&F. Both are evening looks but look very different from each other. Also, changing your lip colour makes a big difference to your outfit. For the holiday look I wore a deep red lippy which creates a contrast with the grey/black tones. In the other look the pink lip creates a party vibe.

Have you tried creating different looks using the same outfit? If not, then try it and keep experimenting.

Key Pieces for your Holiday

We all love holidays, but most hate packing. So how can we take the stress out of it? For me, the entire build-up to the holiday is exciting. It is that time of the year when I get a bit obsessive about clothes. I always leave my packing to the last minute but get my outfits organised in advance. Today on the blog I am sharing some key pieces that are versatile and a great addition to your wardrobe.

Maxi dress

A maxi dress can easily take you from day to evening. Just swap the shoes/accessories and you are ready to go. I chose this black jersey maxi dress from H&M. Generally white is considered a more appropriate colour for summer but try black with coloured glasses to create a trendy look.

Denim shorts

Once again, a very versatile and must have holiday suitcase item. You can easily take your denim shorts from a day to evening look by just changing the top. Swap for day top with a shimmery camisole and you are good to go. I love these Forever 21 shorts of mine. They are super comfy and give me a very relaxed fit.

Summer dress

Pack relaxed and loose fit dresses. Holiday dresses are easy to wear and can give you a break from work clothing. I chose this off-shoulder yellow dress from Mango. It was super comfy but creased a lot (which I didn’t mind much on holiday). The other one is this layered light khaki coloured dress. I loved wearing this dress-it was fun and very boho chic.

The key to holiday packing is being organised with your outfits. I am sure when you start packing, you will have ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments. Pick versatile pieces that you can match with other things. Pieces that can easily take you from day to night. Comfy flats are a must and if you want a change, then pack a pair of heeled sandals.

I would love to hear about your holiday packing experiences. Do share your top tips with me. Till then stay fabulous, stay stylish.

My Skirt Story – All the way from Pakistan

This is a very long overdue post. I have been itching to write it but could never prioritise it enough. Being a working mum and trying to juggle so many responsibilities makes me want to go in a dark zone and not be accountable for anything. But my blog inspires me to set my priorities and keeps pulling me back from that zone.

So, the story on the blog today is about my gorgeous embroidered skirt all the way from Pakistan. As you know, last year I was planning my outfits for my brother’s wedding and made one epic trip to India (that reminds me, I have to share my shopping stories). I had a set budget for my shopping haul and wanted to explore various designers. Also I wanted to get something which I would be able to wear in London as well. I did a lot of research on how I want my outfits to be, where I should get them from et al. This one outfit which I wore on two different occasions was not on my list. So the story goes like this – I was helping out designer Jyoti Chandhok at an event in London. I love Jyoti’s work and think she is one of the very few designers in UK who have something unique to offer. It so happened that at the same event I spotted Nabeel’s work. Unlike other vendors, Nabeel had few selected pieces on display. I was immediately drawn to his collection and specially to this lovely Afghan style embroidered cape. I loved the cape and Nabeel insisted that I should try it on. While I was trying on the cape, I had this thought of turning the cape into a skirt. I discussed the idea with Nabeel and worked on the outfit. Since Nabeel frequently travels to London he was able to deliver the outfit to me here. When I received the skirt, it was exactly what I wanted. Nabeel was able to translate my conversation on Whatsapp and bring my vision to life.

I wore this skirt on two different occasions and styled it a bit differently to create a day and evening look. For the day event I wore it with a crisp white collar shirt and a statement neck piece from Zara.
